BEFORE MIXING, MAKE SURE AIR FITTINGS & COMPRESSOR WORK. Drain Compressor of all water before spraying. We are not responsible for faulty gun or compressor set ups. Run thinner through the gun to test. Some surfaces require priming. Check the FAQ page for details.

PREP
Wash surface with soap and water to remove dirt. Degrease with any wax, grease remover or lacquer thinner. (NOT MINERAL SPIRITS). Scuff with 180 grit paper or rougher. Blow dust away and solvent wipe again. Run automotive grade masking tape (no wire) down all edges. Use paper or plastic to completely cover the rest of the vehicle. Wear an approved paint respirator! In most cases, you do not need a primer for the black epoxy-urethane blend. However, a primer is recommended for our color kits:

For fiberglass or bare steel: industrial or automotive (epoxy, enamel) multi primer

For chrome: etching primer
-
For plastic: plastic adhesion promotor or a water-based primer for plastic

For aluminum: etching primer or epoxy primer made for aluminum

For painted surfaces: scuff and shoot—no primer needed

Rust must be treated prior to spraying the liner with a phosphoric acid. Cracks must be sealed with Bondo™ or a paintable caulk. Prime all body work areas.
MIXING

The kits are pre-measured. Mix one 1.5 gallon kit at a time. Do not mix a 3 gallon kit all at once. If you have a small area, you can mix smaller quantities using the ratio 3:1:1:1 – that’s 3 parts of the Part A and one part of everything else.

Mix the four components into a bucket with a wooden paddle. Do not use an electric drill mixer as it activates the product too quickly. You will have a pot life of about 30 minutes to use the product, so be prepared. Keep out of direct sun. Temperatures should be 45 degrees or warmer while spraying.

SPRAY

Pour the material into the empty reducer can, and screw on the paint gun nozzle. Connect air hose (75-100 psi works best). Begin spraying. You can loosen the nozzle or add more reducer (lacquer thinner/xylene) if the gun is stalling. Never use mineral spirits.

Hold gun 18-24 inches from surface. Do not attempt to spray on heavy. Your first coat is supposed to cover your truck’s paint. Get into truck and start spraying at the cab working toward the tailgate. (Most people take the tailgate off to spray.) Work your way out of the bed. Keep filling can, spraying on an additional coat until all the material is gone. HEAVY ON THE FLOOR, EASY ON THE WALLS. You will feel the product getting hotter in the container – do not panic, this is the curing process starting.

If using a texture hopper gun, use small or medium tip. Treat hopper with WD-40 prior to putting material in to make clean up easier. Fill hopper half way with material, turn on air and pull trigger lightly to spray. Put the material on in light coats. Air comes out of the gun even if the trigger is not pulled. Do not panic.

It is best to put the first coat on moving from right to left. Put the second coat on while standing outside the bed, going from cab to tailgate. No need to wait between coats—keep spraying until it is all gone.

Keep the sprayed surface dry. Direct sunlight helps with drying.

Remove tape and plastic around 15 minutes after spraying. By the time you clean the gun, it should be time to remove the tape. Look for any overspray on the vehicle. Wipe overspray off with a rag and thinner. Product will harden in 2-3 hours. Direct sun will help cure faster. Keep bed dry until cured. FULL CURE IS 5 DAYS!

Product can be rolled on as well with a medium nap roller—not foam—but will not produce as professional of a look.

CLEAN UP

For the small gun: run lacquer thinner thru the undercoating gun and wipe down parts. For the Hopper gun, remove the top and put aside. Run lacquer thinner through the gun. Remove nozzle and clean well using a rag or brush. Do not soak gun as gaskets will disintegrate. The Hopper (top) part of the gun can be cleaned the next day by peeling out the dried product.
